一、課程說明(Course Description)
This course introduces concepts and principles of circuit analysis and design
at microwave frequencies by examining microwave passive and active devices.
The concepts of transmission line are addressed. Design of passive/active
circuits such as filters, inductors, and couplers are also emphasized. The
design techniques required to develop some of the major building blocks in
modern microwave systems are also included in this class.

Topics to be covered:
a. Electromagnetic theory: Wave equation and basic plane wave solutions;
Energy and power; Plane wave reflection
b. Microwave circuit principles: Transmission lines; Waveguides; S-parameters;
Microwave network analysis; Impedance matching and tuning
c. Passive microwave circuits: Microwave filters; Microwave couplers; Power
divider
d. Active microwave circuits: Low-noise amplifiers; Mixers; Power amplifiers;
Oscillators.

四、教學方式(Teaching Method)

Power point handouts are used in this class. Tablet computer is used for
equation derivation and additional materials. CAD tool is used in this class
to let students have opportunities using industrial standard approach for
microwave circuit design. In addition, students are required to design and
measure passive board-level microwave circuits in the labs (two to three of
the labs).
