一、課程目的

考古學顧名思義是研究古代的學問。作為人類學的一個分支（至少是在新大陸），考古學最大作用是在於增加研究人類文化的時間深度與視野，以符合人類學對人類社會文化作整體研究的目的。所以作為人類學的學生，不論是否專攻考古學，都有必要對這門人類學基本分科的內涵和發展有基本的認識。本課程的目的便是要使同學瞭解什麼是考古學，包含它的性質、目的、發展過程、所使用的資料、研究的方法和理論，以及當前研究的方向和課題。本課程的上課時間是從98年9月14日至99年1月1月10日，計畫的進度如下：

三、課程要求

本課程以講授、閱讀和討論三種形式進行。為顧及修課的同學大都未曾修習過考古學相關的課程，因此，課程講授的內容著重基本觀念，並以實際研究案例的閱讀和討論，以增加理解。每次上課之前均會指定閱讀資料，於課中由同學輪流報告，以增加學習效果。本課程要求包括：

1、平時出席、指定閱讀和報告討論（40%）
2、期末考試（30％）
3、期末報告須寫三千字以上研究報告一篇（30%），可包括研究報告、讀書心得、書評，或研究計畫等，須於課程結束後一個月內準時交繳，遲繳扣分。
