Description:

Various religious traditions often featured healing practices as their important, if not central, part; this course will focus on the healing practices that existed in the religious framework in pre-modern societies in East and West, that is, the practices (shamanistic, magical, and so on) incompatible with, and often (but not always) antedating, the modern (Western) medicine. A special stress will be laid on the traditions of “magical healing” in China and Vietnam.
