（一）課程說明：
本課程屬於分析哲學專題類的課程，其學分可以計入哲學所之畢業學分。蒯因（Quine）常被視
爲二十世紀下半葉以來重要的美國哲學家，他的哲學對當代的分析哲學以及實用主義之發展皆有不可忽視
的影響。舉例來説，他對「分析性」（analyticity）概念之批判，一度被認爲是摧毀性的；他所主張的
「翻譯之不確定性」（Indeterminacy of Translation）與「指涉之不可測知性」
（Inscrutability of Reference），開啓了許多有關語言哲學、形上學等課題之討論；他提出一個
關於存有論承諾之判準，還力倡知識論之自然化，使得當代英美的知識論開出了一個嶄新的方向。對於分
析哲學以如何的方式來處理哲學問題，蒯因的著作提供了我們一個具有個人風格的示範。由於蒯因哲學觸
及的範圍相當廣泛，我們無法對之作比較全面的探討。本課程之目的，是希望透過對其若干著作之研讀，
理解其哲學的三個側面—語意理論、形上學與知識論。預計研讀的文獻可分以下四類：

（四）教學方式：
教學以演講與討論為主，選課的同學必須作一次課堂報告。

（五）教學進度：
我們採取循序漸進的方式，針對蒯因的論文，逐一講授與討論，務求對此中的義理以及相關的論證有比較
精確的掌握。

（六）成績考核：
課堂報告 10％家庭作業（包括翻譯）佔40％期末報告一篇 50％
