一、課程說明(Course Description)
based on thermodynamics of materials, reaction rate theory and diffusion
theory, this course includes the following topics:crystal interface and
microstructure, nucleation and growth theories,diffusional
transformations in solids, diffusionless transformation. The goal of this
course is to teach students the core knowledge of materials science,
especially the application of thermodynamics and kinetics in the most
important phase transformations in materials systems. The prerequisite
courses are: thermodynamics of materials (ESS2510 or equivalent), physical
metallurgy I and II (ESS3510 and ESS3520).

六、成績考核(Evaluation)

There will be one midterm exam (35%) and one final exam (45%). Problem
set will be given constantly (20%)

Depending on the number of the students in this class. If the class has less
than 15 students, the last two weeks will be arranged for a final
presentation. Students are expected to present a special topic that you
have learned in this class. The performance of the presentation will be
counted in the grade of final exam. Accordingly, final exam will be 30%
and the final presentation will be 15% of the semester grade. However, if
the number of the students is more than 15, final exam will be a regular
written test and the grade will be 45% of the semester grade.
