一、課程說明(Course Description)

The purpose of this course is to provide first-year engineering students
fundamental knowledge of materials science and engineering.

二、指定用書(Text Books)

W. F. Smith and J. Hashemi, "Foundations of Materials Science and Engineering",
6th Ed., McGraw-Hill, ISBN 978-1-260-09203-5

四、教學方式(Teaching Method)

Design-Led Teaching approach and Active Leanings.
In order to incooperate interdisciplinary aspect of engineering, design-lead teaching approach has been incorporated in this course; firstly, case studies of various critical components in engineering systems are introduced to highlight various properties requirements for materials, then the choice of materials and processes needed to achieve the state of structure for materials to obtain these properties are described, finally the scientific aspects of the subject can be taught in more details.
