About the Course

Course objective: This course is intended to have students understand
the current important issues about global economy. The regular lectures are
organized under the framework of Trade and Development, with topics cover
theory, history, institution, and policy. In addition, two selective
lectures will explore recent hot issues of globalization – cultural
diversity and creative industries, and new challenge of central banking.
These lectures are given by the professors from the Economics Department.
There are also two lectures which are delivered by guest speakers to cover
the contemporary policy issues,

Students are required to do assignments and engage in class discussion, and
finish a final team report. Through these requirements, you should apply the
knowledge form this course to your work or career plan, and also be .more
influential in public issue. The last two weeks are reserved for students to
present the team projects and review what you have learned.

Course Material. There is no textbook. We will announce references and a
reading list one or two weeks before each lecture. Lecture notes and/or
handouts for class discussions will be distributed to you in each class.

Grading.

The final grade will be determined by the attendance, the class discussion,
assignments and team project report with presentation. Weights for grading
are based on the three items: 30% for the attendance and discussion, 40%
for the assignments, and 30% for the final report.
