This course aims to offer an overview of the main topics of pragmatic
studies and familiarize students with the basic methodology for pragmatic
research and analysis through lectures by the instructor and students'
participation in class activities and individual (or group) research
project. Topics to be covered in the semester include speech acts,
conversational implicature, theories of politeness, deixis,
presupposition, etc.
