一、課程說明(Course Description)

The course will start with a revision on the motivations of biomedical imaging,
along with common techniques and challenges. Then, we will zoom in on ultrasound
imaging techniques: from acoustic wave propagation in tissue to the
understanding of transducers and image formation. As we explore system designs
and their applications, we will denote the characteristics and limitations of
the method. We will follow this by covering optical imaging. As we go from
fundamentals to systems and applications, and finally to challenges and outlook,
discussion will be steered towards its features complementary to those of
acoustic techniques. Finally, the last third section of the course will be on
the study of photoacoustic (optoacoustic) methods, where we combine optical
excitation and acoustic detection.

三、教學方式(Teaching Method)

This course will be a combination of lectures and group discussions. Students
will be encouraged to deduct and reason for the purpose of developing critical
thinking as well as reinforce cognitive participation. Homework will be designed
to challenge the students’ literature search ability, along with analytical and
presentations skills.
