Course Description:
The course aims to raise issues in contrastive analysis of, specifically,
English and Chinese, though other languages may be included when the context is
appropriate. Although the theory of contrastive analysis today is not as popular
as that in its heyday, comparing languages and using the results in language
teaching is still rewarding. Students are expected to appreciate the
similarities and differences of English and Chinese in various aspects and use
the knowledge in course design.

Teaching Method:
In addition to topics in the textbook, some issues not covered by the textbook
will be tackled using a series of papers. Basic concepts are reviewed in the
first half of the semester. The achievements are evaluated with a midterm exam.
In the second half of the semester, students are required to focus on a specific
