The ability to repair tissue injuries is essential for
survival and is a prerequisite for all invasive medical intervention. It has
been shown that wound healing and cancer metastasis share common early
signaling pathways that have led to the hypothesis that tumors are “wounds
that do not heal”. In fact, cancer progression and wound healing are
influenced by many common factors, for example, regulators of angiogenesis and
inflammation are instrumental in different types of oncological therapy and
wound healing/regeneration.

With a focus on current research projects in Prof. YJ Chuang;s lab, this
special topics course begins with a systemic review of current topics in wound
healing and cancer therapy, followed by general and then focused discussion of
involved factors that are of interest.
