一. 課程說明 (Course Description)
This course is to introduce the coverage and basic knowledge of Materials
Science and Engineering. It will also cover its linkage with other inter-
discipline field, the applications, existing problems and challenges that
needs to overcome with innovation. The goal is to inspire students'
passionate on materials and motivation learning fundamentals in next 4 years
as an undergraduate, so as to find their interested area for them to go for
further.

5. Open courses at Coursera
6. Any information accessible on the website that can help.

四. 教學方式(Teaching Method)
1. Will emphasize students’ self-learning, and joint Q&A/discussion/group-
study/English-presentation in the class.
2. Need students to pre-study and submit a 1-page "summarized" report in
English instead of "copy from textbooks" before the class of each chapter.
This preview report should include 4 portions, definition overall summary,
special term definition and terminology, potential applications, and
difficulties. It is to help students to catch more points in each class and
also improve English reading which is crucial for four years study at MSE.
3. Will give a lecture and encourage students raising their points from
their understanding (based on their 1-page report), and group-study
discussion
during the class for fundamentals and applications (case study).
4. Will use video from web-site (Coursera, MIT Open Courseware) to help
students' learning as much as possible.
5. Let students form a group to construct crystals models and present for
contests.
6. Off-site company tour to know more about materials related application
and industry.
7. Group Study in the class (encourage group discussion, ~4 persons/study-
group)
